The act of sailing can be described as the synchronicity between the active body of the participant and the object of the vessel working together within the dynamic elements of nature. These elements: air (wind), water, and light, form this sensual dynamic experience between the sailor and the vessel. The intention in the design of the sailing club is to celebrate the act of sailing and the dynamics of nature, designing a building that enhances and interacts in a beautiful way with the wind, water and light - a form which, like nature, responds in a dynamic ever-changing manner depending on the climate and time of day. In addition, the design of the club celebrates the inherent beauty and craft of the vessel object. As such, the form and structure metaphorically refl ects that of a sailing craft. Like fi ne cars and planes, boats seem to have a universal appeal to the general public as the fi nest of man’s creations.
