Single Family Home
The home is conceived as a live-work-gallery home for an artist curator. ‘8-House’ is an abstraction that derives its design parti from the planometric shape of the number 8, and extruding it vertically to form and frame two courtyard / landscape ‘voids’, which breaks down the overall monolithic bulk of the home into thin wings, providing direct relationships to light, air, courtyards, landscape, and the cosmos from within. The home intentionally hovers above the site to reinforce the notion of contextual detachment, as a metaphor for how contemporary artists work beyond the boundaries of reality…floating above the world in the realm of interpretation and imagination. Furthermore, the principle of floating turns the villa into an object in the landscape, or like an art-object in a gallery.
